Tour some of Hillsboro's parks on your bike. Bring the whole family for an enjoyable, relaxing ride. We will explore some overlooked gems of Hillsboro's city park system while learning basic bicycle road safety.
Sunday, September 27th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
We'll meet early at the bank parking lot at Civic Center Parking lot on Washington street between 1st and 2nd Ave. for tire pressure checks, a brief safety discussion, and final route maps and details. Helmets are required, even for adults.
The ride is designed to be easy enough for the entire family to participate, but riders should be expected to be able to navigate city streets. The entire route has been designed for safety and includes bike lanes on Hillsboro’s city streets, residential streets, bike paths, and open road. We will be emphasizing bicycle safety and rules of the road.
Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets are required, even for those over 16. The use of reflective gear and bright clothing is encouraged.
The route starts in downtown on 2nd avenue and Washington street. After a few words about safety, we will begin our ride The rides vary in length, depending on the ability of each rider. The rides were designed for a slow, easy pace that will allow for some exploring time.
We will visit and explore the following parks:
- Walnut Street Park
- Shadywood Park
- UJ Hamby Park
- Eastman Garden Park (Hillsboro's Smallest!)
- Noble Woods
- Rood Bridge
- 53rd St
- Frances Park
- And more!
The ride concludes at Hillsboro's Civic Center Plaza on Main Street between 1st & 2nd Avenues. We will be handing out ribbons and goodies for participants and will have some fun activities for all riders.
